Waaaaaaleeeeee
Simple: Go see it, today if you can.
Here’s the Fandango link.
I took the kids today to see Wall-E, the new Pixar flick. If you don’t know, it’s about a robot who is left behind on earth to clean up all the garbage that humans have accumulated and left behind as they left earth because of over consumption.
The movie is of course visually stunning. I expected that part and was pleased. It was funny as well and like Finding Nemo had some touching/sad/heart wrenching (okay I almost cried) moments as well.
What I didn’t expect was how smart this movie is. animated movies seem to always have those parts/lines that the adults laugh at but this one went further. It posed some really interesting questions about how we live, consume and create piles of garbage on planet earth. The consumption and destruction of earth is greatly brought to light through the presence of B&L (Buy & Large) which sells everything, helps the humans escape earth on their massive cruise/space ship and they are also responsible for the clean up which doesnt’ work the way they planned.
The movie from the beginning is thought provoking as you see mountains of garbage; then there is B&L who sells nothing but things that appear to be super-sized and they are present everywhere — always there willing to sell. Well into the movie when we finally encounter humans they are all really overweight. All they do is eat and stare at screens and seem to be completely disengaged from reality and inept at taking care of themselves or even interacting with other people.
In the end Wall-E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) and Eve (Extra-Terrestrial Vegetation Evaluator) build a cute relationship and help save the humans and help them return to Earth. If you go, stay through the credits. The graphics following the final scene are really interesting and I loved what they did with the re-birth/art/history thing.
I’d go see this one again if it didnt take a bank loan to go to see it. Can’t wait for it to come out on DVD. It’s definetely a purchase.
