Derek Leman Interview, Pt. 2
Yesterday I began posting an interview that I had with Derek Leman the author of Feast – a study from LifeWay.
3)
Are there special topics, events, ideas for children to help them
understand the importance of what is taking place in the shabbat meal?
There
is so much I could say here. Deuteronomy 6 says that we should talk
about God's commandments when we sit and when we rise, morning and
evening. It speaks of writing God's word on our doorpost and on our
head and arm. We can teach kids God's commandments and Sabbath time is
a perfect time — the family is gathered and the ceremony creates
wonder and interest for the kids.
4) If Christians were going to begin to observe one feast each year, which would you suggest and why?
Passover.
First, it may be what Jesus meant when he said, "As often as you do
this, do it in remembrance of me" (he was not celebrating communion
when he said that, but eating the Passover meal). Second, 1 Corinthians
5 is evidence that the very Gentile Corinthians congregations knew
about and perhaps celebrated Passover. Third, Passover is the easiest
for Christians to understand. I will be writing A Passover Celebration
Guide for Churches and Small Groups and it just may be a LifeWay
product in 2010 (I don't have a contract, but LifeWay has expressed
some interest).
