Storytelling

I love teaching.  This will not come as a surprise to many of you.  I guess I kinda get it naturally.  Pretty much everyone in my family has been or is a teacher or a preacher and I've done both :)
I enjoy the whole process of teaching – preparation, presentation, questions and dialogue that follow.

One of the things that I really would like to do better in my teaching is become a better storyteller.  Last night after Merge, I was talking with one of our members who is a phenomenal writer and story teller.  I was inquiring about storytelling workshops which he had some great ideas and he pointed me to the National Storytelling Festival.  I like it – this looks like a pretty cool thing and heck it's sponsored by Krispy Kreme so it's off to a great start right there.

I'd love to know if any of you have ever been? Or do you have any ideas on good storytelling classes or workshops?

Never been, but know people who have. Book your hotel/bed and breakfast EARLY. Whole town tends to fill up as well as surrounding. It you don’t want to commute from K-town every day, call now. It is supposed to be phenomenal, by the way.

i am big time into the art of story. a statement which shouldn’t be taken to mean that i’m a good story teller. i just love story! i forget where i read this but i THINK it was an andy stanley book. anyways……someone said preaching (a word i hate for some reason) is really the art of story. it is telling my story in such a way to draw the listeners in then showing from the Scriptures how my story and the listeners story intersect with God’s story. their takeaway was…..the point where my story as a teacher, the listeners story and God’s story intersect…..life change happens! I LOVE THAT THOUGHT!!!! anyways, i would love to go to the festival but don’t know if i can pull it off because i am getting a grandson in october. anyways…..if you decide to go, let me know.
